FLATWILLOW and WINNETT NEWS
Happy Halloween! Hard to believe October is ending and November is already here.
Flatwillow Homemakers met at Raye Anne Lund’s home on September 20. We held our meeting a week late due to busy schedules. There were nine members present and three were absent. We all signed a card and sent it along with a gift bag that Bonnie made up from all of us to Donna. She is still in the nursing home in Lewistown. Sandy called the meeting to order and led the Pledge of Allegiance. Raye Anne gave the thought for the day called “It is Well with my Soul.” It is the story of how this song was written by a man who had lost everything but his faith. Raye Anne also had some fun facts of what some of our goods cost in 1957. Roll call was answered with something we did this summer that was exciting and different. Minutes from the May meeting were read. Luann motioned and Melody seconded to approve the minutes as read. Treasurer’s report was approved as presented.
Under correspondence, Donna Lund sent a nice thank you card for the beautiful bouquet of flowers we gave her in appreciation of her 28 years as our secretary. Babs won the blind pig. Dues were paid and everyone bid on the opportunity table. Luann gave some information about all the uses for WD-40. Some of the ideas were: remove duct tape residue from where it is stuck, remove crayon drawings from walls, shine shoes, remove scuff marks on the floor, remove bugs that are stuck on your car. A lot of every day clever uses for WD-40.
Secret sisters gifts were handed out. Everyone guessed at who their secret sister was. New slips were filled out and new secret sisters were drawn for this year. We filled out our program booklets and caught up on the news of what we all did this summer. Members present for our first meeting of the year were Sandy Gonzalez, Luann Knutson, Bab Lea, Raye Anne Lund, Bonnie Moore, Ginger Moore, Lillian Moore, Kim Tarplee, and Melody Whitcher. See you next month!
Our October Homemakers meeting was at Ginger’s home on the 11th. There were nine members present, three absent. There were no birthdays to celebrate in October. Sandy called the meeting to order and led the Pledge. Ginger read the thought for the day called “October’s Party”. Roll call was answered with a fun game. We all drew a word from the basket and then we had to make a sentence using that word. They were all words related to Halloween. It was a lot of fun and we enjoyed hearing all the sentences made up to use their words. Minutes from September were read and approved with the addition of secret sisters can give gifts to their sister on their birthday in addition to giving a gift on our designated months. Treasurer’s report was approved as presented. We are going to move our November meeting date to Wednesday the 9th instead of Tuesday the 8th. Tuesday is election day so that way we won’t interfere. We will meet at Luann’s for November. Luann had some more interesting ways to use dryer sheets. They repel mice, ants don’t like the smell, they take the musty smell out of closets and drawers, eliminates static electricity form TV screens, computer screens, they can be used to dust electronic screens, put in vacuum cleaner bag for a fresh smell as you vacuum, put under the front seat of your car to keep your car smelling fresh.
New Business – we will make table favors for the Seniors. Luann reminded everyone that Bingo will be on Sunday at 1:30 at the courthouse. Melody told a story about a blue pumpkin. We discussed what we might like to do for our Christmas project. One idea was to find a family that can use a little extra help and maybe put money on an account at the store for them to use as needed. We will talk about this again at our November meeting and decide what we would like to do. There were two gifts given at the blind pig. Sandy won the blind pig, and Ginger won the extra gift. Remember to come to Luann’s on November 9th for our November meeting. Secret sister gifts will be given in November. The craft bazaar in Winnett will be on November 20th at the school gym. Members present at Ginger’s house were Linda Gershmel, Sandy Gonzalez, Karen Hale, Luann Knutson, Raye Anne Lund, Ginger Moore, Lillian Moore, Kim Tarplee, and Melody Whitcher. Raye Anne brought a guest, Jan Cain from Pennsylvania, who out here visiting. See you next month.
We had to say good bye to several long time Petroleum and Winnett community members. David Iverson, Pastor of the First Baptist Church in Winnett, since 1958 – 62 years. He also ranched in Petroleum and Musselshell County. He passed away on September 19, 2022. We send our love and sympathy to all his family and friends.
We also said good bye to Terry Sandman. He was a longtime rancher in the Winnett area. He passed away on September 7, 2022. Anytime you visited with him he always had stories to tell and a wonderful sense of humor. Our hugs and sympathy go out to his family and friends.
Last but not least, we had to say goodbye to Donna Lund. Donna died on October 14, 2022. From a personal perspective, she was the best mother in law anyone could ever ask for. She helped me to learn ranch life when I knew nothing about ranch life, she showed me what grace and kindness is meant to be. She has battled health problems for a number of years, but this past year she started struggling more. She never complained or felt sorry for herself through all her days in the hospital and nursing home, even though we knew she wasn’t feeling well. She was a friend to everyone and loved visiting with anyone. I’m going to miss her. We send out our hugs and sympathy to all Donna’s family and friends.
I hope everyone has a wonderful Halloween and enjoyed a beautiful October. Thanksgiving is coming. There is so much to be thankful, even as we miss those we lost. See you next month.
