Letters to the Editor

The planet Neptune, I bet you never think about it. Neptune is 2.6875 billion miles away from earth. The James Webb telescope that NASA launched Christmas 2021 has sent back photos showing the rings around planet these have not been seen in over thirty years. The Webb has also sent back images to NASA that show 7 of it's 14 moons that encircle the planet. But media is silent. So is our government on any space or ocean exploration. Upon thinking about this total ignoring of modern science, and common sense, I remembered the classic sci-fi film, The Day the Earth Stood Still. This movie was released by Hollywood in the year 1951 and has awed audiences over the decades. This sci-fi movie centers on the arrival of a alien space vehicle and who and what is inside. A spaceman named Klaatu played by English actor Michael Rennie and his robot called, Gort have lived and traveled inside from a long journey of their own planet to bring earthlings a message. The message of course deals with our use of Nuclear weapons of destruction that the spaceman fears will affect his own planet and quality of life on it. As Klaatu makes a speech to earthlings he mentions in a comment of how "he gets impatient with stupidity that his people have learned how to stop using it long ago." Of course the shocked beings on earth think that the spaceman is the threat when actually it is his robot Gort. In the narrative of The day the world stood still, Klaatu makes a friendship with a woman and son living at the rooming house he rents. He tells Helen [role played by Patrica Neal] that if anything happens to him to go to Gort who has the ability to destroy earth and tell him these words.....Klaatu barada nikto. This command will stop the robot from it's wrath against earthlings and the world. The word stupidity best describes our corrupt and failing government officials. What command should we use toward them and their destruction of our lives, country and culture? Figure this out by the November primaries.
