October

Oct 6 - Eighteen seniors and nine take-out meals enjoyed a lunch of cabbage patch stew, cheese slices, vegetable tray, biscuits, fresh fruit and cupcakes today.

The Area II meeting in Roundup will be on October 14. Gary and Linda Gershmel, Steve and Ginger Moore all brought beets from their gardens to share with anyone who wanted any. Bingo will be on the 16th of October at 1:30 at the courthouse. The PCCC left a chair at seniors for everyone to try out and leave an opinion. Phyllis won the 50/50 for $8.00.

Oct 13 - No minutes were taken today so no information.

Oct 20 -The meal today was Polish dogs with sauerkraut, mashed potatoes, seven layer salad and a pudding cup. There were thirty-seven seniors and 5 take-out orders today. There were several visitors - Bob (owner of the Lodge), Margo and Bev Harvey, Kurt Tromp, Keagan, along with Kim and Tracy from the HRDC were here. It was also great to see Donna Sandman back. We’ve missed here and are glad to see her back.

Kim and Tracy were here to talk about the heating assistance program. They had good information to share about getting some help this winter.

We had to say goodbye to one of our long time members. Donna Lund passed away on October 14. She had been the past president of seniors and was an active member of the RSVP until her health forced her to quit. She loved being a member of seniors and an RSVP volunteer. Her services will be in Lewistown at Cloyd’s Funeral Home, tomorrow (October 21). We send our sympathy and prayers to the family and friends of Donna.

Gary reported on the Area II meeting last Friday. Bingo will be Sunday at 1:30. Shirle Wiggins , another longtime senior member and past president had passed away last year. Her ashes were buried at Flatwillow Cemetery last week. Arlene (Johnke) Bond broke her hip, but she is recovering well from surgery. Georgia won the 50/50 for $15.00.

Flu shots will be on November 3. Central Montana Health District from Lewistown will be at the senior center from 10:00 to noon, and then at the school from 1:00-3:00. If you can’t make it to the senior citizen center, you can get your shots at the school. You can also receive a Covid booster if you would like one.

Oct 27 - Birthday celebration dinner is today. Oven fried chicken, mashed potatoes with milk gravy, lettuce salad, cranberries, relishes, with birthday cake and ice cream was enjoyed by thirty-five seniors and 5 take-out meals. Sharon Martin celebrated her birthday in October. Happy Birthday!

Murry Lou with Area II was here today. She encouraged everyone to get their flu shot. She told a hilarious story of taking a cruise with her retired colonel father to Spain. Traveling with her elderly father who had been in the military was quite the adventure.

Also check on your Medicare policy and plans. Montana is not eligible for many “Medicare Advantage Plans”. Do not respond to postcards. You will need to talk with your insurance agent to find out what is available and if you are eligible.

Thank you to Kim Tarplee for the birthday cake. It was delicious. Don’t forget, flu shots are next Thursday from 10:00-noon and again at 1:00 – 3:00 at the school. Diane I. gave an update on their son Paul who is recovering from surgery for a brain tumor. Steve Moore won the 50/50 for $14.00. After chores were done, several tables of cards were played. November

Nov 3 - Twenty-seven in house meals and seven take-out meals were served today. Our lunch was chicken alfredo, broccoli, French bread, cookie salad, and chocolate cake. Chuck Allen was a visitor. Welcome Chuck.

We say goodbye to another long time Winnett community member and senior member. Joe Whisonant passed away on November 2. He was cremated and his ashes will be spread on his ranch this spring at a memorial service. The date will be announced later.

Covid and flu shots are today in the courtroom from 10 – noon, and at the school from 1:00 – 3:00. Dellie spoke with Shirley Hughes. Jack and Shirley had just returned to Arizona. Jack couldn’t walk and was in pain, so they went to the hospital. He has a staph infection in the blood. He is still not walking well, but he is getting better.

Sunday, the 13th will be our next bingo afternoon at the courthouse. At last week’s bingo, Lillian won the blackout. Tom Iverson told a joke. Also, the seniors signed the contract to move to the Community Center. On Nov 17th, there will be a group tour for anyone who wants to see how it is looking and how the work is coming along. Murry Lou of Area II will also be here on the 17th.

Don’t forget that Tuesday, the 8th, is election day. Polls will open at noon that day and close at 8:00pm. Be sure and vote if you haven’t already. Melody wanted to thank Kim for our seasonal decorated tree. It is always festive and fun no matter what time of year it is Chuck Allen gave some information on Joe Whisonant. He was very big in the wrestling world. He coached wrestling when he taught in Chinook, he coached two USA teams and they won. He never wrestled himself, but he knew all the moves and loved the sport.

Stockgrowers is tomorrow night. Registration begins at 5:30 and dinner will start at 6:00. The winner of the side by side and other prizes from the Winnett Lions’ raffle tickets will be at 9:00pm at the Winnett Bar. Jim Johnke won the 50/50 for $11.50. After dishes were done and chores finished, cards were played.

Nov 10 - Today we had our Veterans’ Day meal of roast beef, mashed potatoes and brown gravy, green beans with tomatoes, orange fluff salad, and pumpkin bars. There were twenty-six meals served and 8 take-out orders. Veterans present today were Butch Arthur, Ralph Corbett, Chuck Allen, and Leo Tarplee. Thank you all for your service. Kim set up the missing man table and read “the Missing Man”.

Foot clinic is November 22 at the apartment complex. Contact Linda Gershmel for an appointment. Birthday meal will be next Thursday. Sunday is Bingo at the Courthouse. Sylvia gave a thank you to Kim for what she is doing as President of Seniors. Gary talked about a booklet he has from 1971 about people from this area and who were the armed forces. He also told an Ole and Lena story. Sharon won the 50/50 today. Cards were played after the dishes were done and clean up finished.

Nov 17 - We had our birthday meal of oven fried chicken, mashed potatoes with milk gravy, lettuce salad, cranberries with birthday cake and ice cream. We are celebrating today since next Thursday is Thanksgiving and there won’t be seniors. Twenty-nine seniors and 5 take-out orders enjoyed our birthday meal. This was a busy birthday month. Ginger, Phyllis, and Patti all have November birthdays. Linda made the birthday cakes. Thank you to Ginger and Luann for the table decorations. Daniel Iverson was a guest today. He brought Ella in and stayed for the meal.

The benefit for Michael Bevis is Saturday night at the Winnett Bar. The chili feed starts at 5:00, the auction will begin at 7. Raffle is at 9:00. Everyone is welcome.

The Christmas stroll is December 3 from 6-8pm. Santa will be arriving via fire truck around 6:30. He and Mrs. Claus will be at the Breaks Store and pictures can be taken anytime all evening. Mr. Grinch will also be making an appearance.

Jade won the 50/50 for $10.50. Murry Lou from Area II was here today. Open enrollment for Medicare is going on right now until December 7. Double check your Medicare Part D (drug) plan. Not all drug plans are available in Montana. The newsletter is here. Everyone can take one. Be sure and read it. It has great articles that are important to seniors. The biggest scam going on now is medical equipment like knee braces, ankle braces, wrist braces, etc. If anyone calls you, hang up immediately. Medicare will NEVER call you about any medical equipment you might need. Linda told a joke, and everyone thanked the cooks for the wonderful meals they prepare.
