The local VFW Post 4925 is embarking on a "make-over" for the War Memorial Park. Signal Peak generously donated $14,723 for six new flag poles and flags to represent the six branches of the military, the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard, and Space Force. The flags will be placed ten feet apart, giving a beautiful presentation for the end of Main Street. Many other donations have been made towards the project for solar lights, concrete, and dirt work. Veteran Bill Turner mentioned that Pronto Construction made a generous donation towards the solar lights.
The VFW has already used the Signal Peak donation to purchase the poles, but construction will not be able to start till the ground thaws. The VFW plans to have everything done by Memorial Day, and are planning to have a grand "Flag Raising and Dedication" on Memorial Day, May 20th. They are hoping to have a special presentation for each branch of the military with music and special guests.
The VFW will also be using private donations for the Main Street Flags to purchase and place new flags along Main Street for Memorial Day. The group will also be putting flags on the graves of service members on the Friday before Memorial Day.
The local VFW Post 4925 has meetings the second Thursday of each month at 6:30 PM in the basement of the Museum. They would greatly appreciate new members. If you are a Veteran of Foreign Wars, please consider joining the group and the many things that they do for the community. They currently have forty-three members, but many have moved out of state and there are only about fifteen that attend the meetings. Anyone considering joining would be appreciated and need only to come to a meeting.
