Treading Air and Other Stories

All are welcome as the Friends of the Library host Thomas Thackeray in an author presentation on Sunday March 5 at 1:30pm at the Roundup Community Library.

Thomas Thackeray's recently published book, Treading Air and Other Stories, draws on his background to describe in semiautobiographical fiction what it was like growing up on a working ranch in 1960s Montana.

Thackeray, recently retired Roundup High School English teacher, was raised in a ranching family on north-central Montana's HiLine.

Ranch children learn at a young age how something as mundane as a badger hole or a mud-slick slope can alter life in unimaginable ways.

This collection of short stories presents vignettes from the perspective of James "Jimmy" Webster as he attempts to make sense of his family and the hard-learned lessons of his youth.

The stories are a spare and unblinking examination of growing up on a working ranch-a life of heartbreak and hope, tragedy and laughter.

One critic likens the narrator's tendency, in these vignettes of his life, to remain optimistic even during the most difficult of life struggles to "the sugar Jimmy adds to his tea."

Treading Air and Other Stories by Thomas Thackeray is available at Amazon.com in both paperback and Kindle editions.

Friends of the Library will provide refreshments. Copies of Treading Air and Other Stories will be available at the 1:30pm presentation on March 5.
