Happy Valentine’s Day. Flatwillow Homemakers met on February 14 at Kim Tarplee’s home. She served a delicious soup and we all brought in wonderful salads, side dishes, desserts, and lots of cookies. Seven members were present and five were absent. Linda Gershmel, Luann Knutson, Babs Lee, Raye Anne Lund, Bonnie Moore, and Lillian Moore were all there. We missed Sandy Gonzalez, Karen Hale, Arlene Bond, Ginger Moore, and Melody Whitcher. Weather and traveling kept some of our members from being able to attend. Hope to see everyone next month.
The thought for the day was from the Funny Editor. One of the jokes was “when is dad’s bedtime? Answer – 3 hours after he falls asleep in his chair”. That is so true for all of us sometimes. Roll call was answered with talking about our first Valentine. It was fun trying to remember that far back to see how well we remembered our first Valentine.
Minutes and treasurer’s report were approved as presented. There was no unfinished business. New business, Kim showed a video of how to make a bunny rabbit using Eater napkins and fill with candy. We will plan on making these next month at Babs’ home.
We might want to start thinking about what we would like to do and where we would like to go for our May meeting. One suggestion was going to Lewistown and having lunch at the Yogo Inn. If we did this, we would see if Jean Cook could join us. We would go get her, buy her lunch, and take her back to Valle Vista. Luann won the blind pig. There was also a couple of other gifts made by Bonnie and Kim. We drew the numbers out again and Luann, Linda, and Babs all won a gift. Thank you to Bonnie and Kim for sharing their craft talents with us.
Secret Sister gifts were handed out. Next month’s meeting will be on April 11 at Babs house. There will be opportunity table. Hope everyone had a wonderful Valentine’s Day. Hopefully the weather next month will be much better, and we can call get together for a fun afternoon. See you next month.
The first event able to be held in our new Petroleum County Community Center was on February 10. Our local PIE group (Partners in Education) at the school put on a delicious spaghetti dinner before the community play called “Clueless in Catscratch” gave their first performance. It was loosely based on the game of clue and took place in 1898 Montana. It was a fun game of clue that came to life….or death. They gave two performances which both were well attended. The first on Feb 10, the second Sunday afternoon, Feb 12. There were a lot of colorful characters in this play played by members of our community. Thank you to Terry Lewis for writing, directing, producing this play and matching the right person up with the right character. It was fun, entertaining and I hope we see more of the PCCC players.
Congratulations to our WGR Rams and Lady Rams on finishing another season of basketball. Our team is in a rebuilding mode, and they all worked hard. They had their district tournaments in Lewistown last week. Now we look forward to our track season.
I had to say goodbye to my mother in February. She died on February 14. I was at Homemakers but did not have my phone on. When we were finished, I turned my phone on and had text messages and missed phone calls from my family. It was not unexpected, but still hard to hear, but was truly a blessing both for my mom and us. She has courageously battled Alzheimers for a number of years. We could see she was wearing out and so tired and had no life. She could no longer walk, feed herself, know any of us at all. She was ready to go. As hard as it is to say goodbye, it is a relief to know she is relieved of her broken mind and broken body, whole again, and pain free. I want to thank everyone for the wonderful cards, the kind words of comfort and encouragement, the prayers and just being there for me as the long goodbye was so hard on the heart.
Spring is around the corner, calving has begun in some areas. We start calving around the 15th of March. I sure hope the weather gets better. Busy time of year for everyone but especially when calving, farming, irrigation, planting all start. It is also busy at the school as they are working on the last couple of months of school before summer. Graduation will be here before we know it. Stay safe, stay warm, and have a wonderful spring.
