December

Dec 1 - We enjoyed a luncheon of taco casserole, fruit salad, relish tray, and a brownie for dessert. There were twenty-six seniors there with seven take-out meals.

There will be a basketball game tomorrow in Winnett. Saturday, Dec 3, the Christmas Stroll begins at 6:00pm and goes to 8:00. There will be a parade of lights, a gingerbread house contest, Santa and Mrs. Claus will come through town about 6:30 on the fire truck and then will be at The Breaks Store. It will be set up that you can get Christmas pictures taken with Santa. Rumor has it that the Grinch will also make an appearance. If the weather permits there will also be Christmas carolers out and about.

December 11 will be bingo at the courthouse at 1:30. There will be a Christmas program at the school on December 19 at 2:00. Everyone is welcome and then you can enjoy some cookies and hot chocolate or hot apple cider after the concert.

Linda had visited with Clay and Marie Dunlap in Lewistown. They are both recovering from Covid and said hi to everyone.

Update on the Community Center – the floors are done in the senior citizens’ area and offices. The gym floor is not completed yet. Darren, the new contractor for Swank from Kalispell has arrived. Cole is busy with other jobs so another guy from Billings has come to help Darren with everything. It is exciting to see the progress on the new Community Center. The Conservation District is planning on having their January meeting (the last Thursday of the month) in the Rebecca Room because the Seniors will be in the Wesley Room (that was news to the seniors, they weren’t planning on moving just yet). Georgia won the 50/50 for $9.00. After dishes were finished and chores were done, there were several tables of cards.

Dec 8 - Twenty-six seniors and eight take-out orders enjoyed a meal of cheesy vegetable soup, chicken salad, and ham salad sandwiches, fresh fruit cup and Poke cake.

Bingo will be held on the 11th of December in the basement of the courthouse. The school Christmas program has changed from December 19 to December 15 at 2:00 at the school. Santa will be there. Come enjoy a program put on by the elementary students of Winnett School.

Gary G. told a story about how his land got bombed in 1944. Bombers from Malstrom AFB were practicing and dropped a couple of bombs – two on each side of the highway. No one expected bombs to be dropping in the middle of Montana.

Linda won the 50/50 for $9.00. After clean up was finished, cards were played.

Dec 15 - Meatloaf, baked potatoes, corn, crescent rolls, relish tray and apple crisp was on the menu today. Twenty-nine seniors and seven take-out enjoyed this comfort food and delicious lunch.

School program today at 2:00 in the gym. The new senior newsletter is here for everyone to take home. Murry Lou from Area II was here with news of the newest Medicare alert. DO NOT give out your Medicare number to anyone. You will not be getting a new card in the mail. Do not respond to texts, emails, or phone messages asking you to verify your number.

Diane Iverson gave an update on their son Paul. He has brain cancer. Ralph gave an update on the Community Center. Electricity is on in the building, regular heat is on, most of the floors are laid. They have changed their opening date to the first of February. Senior board members have a meeting on December 29th. Also, be sure to bring your Christmas goody left overs for dessert on the 29th.

Sharon Martin won the 50/50 for $11.00. Cards were enjoyed after all the clean-up was finished.

Dec 22 - No meeting today due to the bitter cold weather.

Dec 29 - Twenty-five seniors along with eight take-out orders enjoyed our birthday meal (postponed from last week) of over fried chicken, cranberries, mashed potatoes with milk gravy, lettuce salad, and cupcakes for dessert. Thank you to Luann for the cupcakes. December birthday celebrated today was Leo Tarplee. He was the only December birthday member present today.

Georgia introduced her granddaughter Tacoma and her great granddaughters Keaton and Kendyl. We also received word that our member Sharon Tate had passed away, and another friend from Roundup who used to work in Area II, Geri Burnett has also passed away. We send our sympathy and condolences to their families and friends. Ginger won the 50/50 for $8.50.

Cards were played after dishes were done. Happy New Year!

JANUARY 2023

Jan 5 - Welcome to 2023. Our first meal of the new year was tuna noodle casserole, peas, veggie salad, and dessert clean up. There were thirty-three seniors and 6 take-out orders today. Georgia and her granddaughter Tacoma volunteered to bake the birthday cake for January.

Bingo will be on Sunday the 8th at the courthouse. Dellie gave an update on Jack Hughes. He has been in the hospital in AZ since before Christmas. He has an infection in his blood due to the wiring in his pace maker. Shirley had hip surgery and is doing well. Jim gave an update on his sister Arlene. She went to the hospital on Dec 30th. An upper valve on her aorta is not working. They will need to do outpatient surgery and put in a stint. Jim’s sister Marie has a cancerous growth on the back of her neck. She is waiting to start chemo treatments for that.

Patti gave a report on who has paid dues and who still needs to pay dues. Ralph gave an update on the PCCC. They are working on the high windows and sky lights today. Three of the four windows are in. If you watched KULR 8 news, you saw an interview with Luann and Larry Carroll on the PCCC.

There will be a foot clinic sometime in January. Linda will find out the exact date and let everyone know next week. Patti won the 50/50 for $10.00. Thank you to the K-2 students at the Winnett Elementary for the placemats. There will be a short meeting after lunch today. Cards were enjoyed after dishes were done.

Jan 12 - Thirty-one seniors enjoyed turkey, company potatoes, beets, rolls, relishes and pumpkin pie cake. Welcome back to Phil Iverson and Rosie Zimmerman. The foot clinic will be on January 23. Call Linda to make an appointment.

Melody told about her son in NH who had been working on a chain saw in his garage by a woodstove. A spark ignited and he sustained 2nd and 3rd degree burns. He is in the burn center in Boston. Rosie gave an update on her son who has cancer. He has gone through his chemo treatments and radiations. He is doing very well, and his cancer is treatable. Patti gave a report on memorial money in memory of Mert. It was designated to go to the bingo equipment. Jim motioned and Ralph seconded to pay in full with the memorial money and buy all inclusive of what is needed for bingo in the new community center.

Commissioners Sig and Paul talked about the meeting tonight about changing to a new form of government. It would be more efficient and give more freedom for our county to be in charge of ourselves. Another meeting is scheduled for February 1. Dan Clark from Bozeman will be here. They encourage everyone to come to one or both of these town meetings to see exactly what we have vs. what we want to change to for the better of our community. Chuck Allen won the 50/50 for $13.00. Everyone helped with clean up and then enjoyed an afternoon of cards.

Jan 19 - Twenty-nine seniors and nine take-out orders enjoyed a meal of chili with toppings, cheese slices, veggie tray, and cinnamon twists. Thank you to Georgia who made the cinnamon twists. They were delicious. Jim gave an update on both his sisters Arlene and Marie. Both are recovering and doing well.

There will be bingo on Sunday here at the courthouse. There is a ball game in Winnett tonight. The 50/50 for $11.00 was won by Ralph.

Raye Anne told about the community play that will be performed in the new community center. It is called Clueless in Catscratch and they will have two performances, one on February 10 and a matinee on Sunday the 12th at 1:00.

Dishes were done and clean up finished and then several tables of cards were played.

Jan 26 - Today is our birthday celebration meal of oven fried chicken, mashed potatoes with milk gravy, lettuce salad, relishes, with birthday cake and ice cream. Thank you to Georgia and Tacoma for the birthday cakes. Tammie Starkjohann volunteered to bake the cakes for February.

Murry Lou and Karen Murphield from Area II in Roundup were here. They brought Covid test kits (4 to a box) to give out. They are good through this flu/covid season until May. The senior newsletters are here. There is some good information on Alzheimers in this edition. Area II has good resources for families dealing with Alzheimers. There is a new scam going on concerning Covid 19 survey. There is no such survey so do not respond to any survey about Covid.

Information on the community play coming up. Performances will be Feb 10 at 7:00. PIE will be putting on a spaghetti dinner at 6:00 before the Friday play. Dinner will be $10 for adults, $5 for children, ages 12 and un12der are free. The play will also be $10 for adults, $5 for children, ages 12 and under are free.

Feb 12 will be the Sunday matinee. There will be no meal at the Sunday play. Prices are the same- $10 for adults, $5 for children, 12 and under are free. The play will be in the gym with the stage in the community center.

Jim reported his sister Arlene had a heart valve replaced and is doing fine. Jim and Melody stopped in at Valle Vista and visited with Jean Cook. She is doing well. Gene Stewart is in the hospital nursing home in Lewistown. He has Parkinson’s. Updates were given on Gil Jones, and Paul Iverson Tacoma gave an update on LeeAnn Delaney. She’s been in the hospital since last Saturday. She was injured while feeding and caking cows. She’s in the Billings Clinic. Jess Hoge reminded everyone about the town meeting on February 1 on the county government change. Linda told about the foot clinic held last Monday. There were fifteen people who came in. It was very well attended. Geri Carpenter and Denise Seilstad were here until 6:00 to make sure everyone was able to get in. .

Chuck Allen won the 50/50 for $12.00. There will be a short board meeting after lunch today. Linda gave an update on her son Grant Gershmel. He had his annual checkup and is 2 years cancer free. Cards were played after all the chores were finished.

Hard to believe January is already gone and getting ready for February.
