"The Three Musketeers" History and Fantasy in a Tale of Swords and Friendship

Come see D'Artagnan with his brother Musketeers, Aramis, Porthos, and Athos, wield their swords and clash in "The Three Musketeers" brought by Montana Shakespeare in the Parks to Roundup City Park at 6:30 PM Thursday, July 13.

"The Three Musketeers" is set in a time of great upheaval in France. A time when religious upheaval, foreign interference, and wicked women are tearing at the fabric of the country. In his adventure, Alexandre Dumas gleefully plays with facts as wanted, plays with fiction where needed, to create his exciting tale of swashbucklers defending the King and France.

The Protestant people of France are afraid of the power of the more conservative Catholic church. Nationalism has led to fear and distrust of foreigners. Being a strong woman is suspicious in the all male power structure of society. Into this world, an idealistic young man, D'Artagnan, goes to Paris to become a Musketeer and serve his King and Country.

So the adventure becomes about growing up and learning. About service and loyalty, about love and life, of faith and friendship. "One for all and all for one" has become a cry heard through the years, echoing in generations of young people drawn together to make a difference.

Shakespeare in the Parks "The Three Musketeers" is free and open to the public. Come to the Roundup City Park softball field -- 9th Avenue & 4th Street East -- Thursday, July 13 at 6:30 PM to watch this lively adventure with lots of sword play. Bring your lawn chairs and picnic baskets and enjoy live theatre under summer skies. The Back Porch BBQ will have their food truck at the Park an hour before the performance. If the weather is inclement, the play will be performed at the Community Center, 700 3rd Street West.

MSIP performs two plays each summer. We usually bring the comedy to Roundup, but if you also wish to see the other play, MSIP is performing Measure for Measure at Laurel H.S. practice field on July 14 at 6:30 PM.

Roundup Arts & Culture (A & C), a standing committee of the Musselshell Valley Community Foundation, brings you Shakespeare in the Park each summer and counts on the generous support of our local patrons.

A & C is looking for additional people for help bring Shakespeare in the Parks and other cultural events to Roundup each year. If you would like to help bring these events to Roundup, please contact Bill Milton at 323-1771.
