Letters to the Editor

Americans were warned in a final Presidential speech given by 5-star General and our nation's 34th. President, Dwight D. Eisenhower about the power of a Military Industrial Complex.President Eisenhower held two terms as President from 1953 to 1961. In his speech on January 17, 1961, he told a listening and very alert American audience about the dangers of a military Deep State power. This is what the 34th.President had to say. "In the councils of government we must guard against the acquisition of unwanted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the military industrial complex. The potential for the disastrous rise of misplaced power exists and will persist." He also would add another profound comment," The need for restrained military spending in order to preserve the American economy." Dwight D. Eisenhower was a man of vision and one of great wisdom knowing how our government works. How unfortunate for we Americans today that his red alert warning about a too powerful military industrial complex has collected dust in library archives. The United States has been and still is, involved in wars that have no national interest to us at all. Now we are engaged in Ukraine after Russia invaded that small country. We Americans were against our involvement that has so far cost 49 billions of YOUR tax dollars to help defend a corrupt country that means little to us but means billions of dollars of wealth to the Deep State government here as well as to the Deep State government of Ukraine. The five largest and most powerful American military contractors have also profited by U.S. tax dollars sent to Ukraine. First the Biden administration sent our oldest military equipment to Ukraine. They knew that these would get blown up during battle and would have to be replaced by new military war machines. At the expense of the American taxpayer. What a waste of our money that could be better used to repair our failing and decaying infrastructure, upgrade our public school systems and the list grows as to how the money could be used in our country to help us. I will close my editorial today by sharing two quotes by an American writer, one who was perhaps one of our greatest and most prolific novelists, Tom Clancy. Many of you are familiar with his books on espionage within our government and world governments, and of war. Here is what Tom Clancy had to say about war." Wars are begun by frightened men." Tom Clancy also was quoted as saying, "Remember, for every shot that is fired someone, somewhere, is making money." Hopefully we shall get a future President that will stop the military influence in our lives, that which drains us of all our economic resources. Yes as a nation we need self defense but that is all.
