WINNETT SENIOR NEWS

May

May 4 - First meeting in our new Wesley Room in the Petroleum County Community Center. Thirty-six seniors and six take-out meals enjoyed Cream of Broccoli soup, pasta salad, cheese slices, relishes, garlic bread, fruit, veggie tray, and Lemon cake.

It was a wonderful successful first day and as we continue to meet and get organized, we’ll get some of the kinks ironed out. It was fun to see this bright, airy, new room that has lots of space, windows to the outside and on one floor.

There were several guests today. Nancy O’Reilly and her brother Larry Schaefer were here. The courthouse crew, Krista and Jess, came over. Dellie’ daughter Edith Wilson from Oklahoma was her guest today. She graduated from Grass Range High School.

Patti informed everyone that there are two tables still in the basement of the courthouse, full of stuff that is free for the taking.

There is a list of inventory items for sale. Be sure to bring that list back with any items you are interested in buying. Jess mentioned that they want to upgrade the chairs in the courtroom.

If you are interested in the “Mail a Meal” contact Patti. There will be a box approximately 35 pounds with non-perishable pantry items. This is for paid members and free. It is ear marked to go to senior citizens. Rosie won the senior of the month. Lee Iverson won the 50/50 for $12.25. Cards were enjoyed before and after the meal. Our first meeting in the new community center was a success.

May 11 - Today’s menu is pulled pork sandwiches, cucumber salad, baked beans, chips, and peach cobbler.

May 18 - Thirty seniors in house and ten take-out meals enjoyed taco casserole, rolls, Cole slaw, relishes, fruit salad, and ice cream bars for dessert. Patti was gone today so Haley was working with Cassie today. Thank you to our cooks for delicious meals every week.

Rosie’s last day is today. She is going home to Minnesota for the summer and will be back in either October or January. We wish her safe travels and a good summer and will look forward to her coming back to Winnett. Melody told about her and Jim’s trip to German to visit Jim’s daughter Linda and family. They all got to do a lot of sight seeing and enjoyed visiting with family. Before they arrived in Germany, Jim and Melody spent several days in Spain. Melody had lived there a number of years ago and they revisited where she had lived and enjoyed seeing the area. Dellie spoke with Shirley Hughes. Jack is still taking medication for his heart. They won’t be able to make it back to Montana for the summer. We all will miss them and wish them well. Can’t wait to see them next year.

Murry Lou from Area II will be here next week. This will be their first visit to our new senior center in the Community Center. Cemetery clean up will be tomorrow, May 19, starting at 10:00. Everyone is welcome. Bring your own weed eater, mower, trimmer, or whatever you have to help clean up the Winnett Cemetery in time for Memorial Da.

Joe Whisonant’s service will be at the PCCC at 11:30 on Saturday. The family is donating meat, rolls, mashed potatoes

and gravy and baked beans. Please bring a salad or dessert, or whatever you would like to bring as we say goodbye to one of the pioneers of Petroleum County and Winnett.

Tom Iverson won the 50/50 for $10.00 Graduation for Winnett High School will be at the school gym on Sunday, the 21st at 1:00. Congratulations to our seniors graduations and moving forward to the next chapter. Shani Browning, Kaitlyn Carter, Cooper Doman, Gracie Gill, and Easton Hanson will finish up their high school careers. Good luck to all of you! After our meal and clean up, several tables of cards were played.

May 25 - Winner, winner, chicken dinner. Today is our chicken day to celebrate May birthdays. We had oven fried chicken, mashed potatoes and milk gravy, lettuce salad, cranberries, and birthday cake and ice cream. Happy birthday to all who were born in May.

Area II was here today. Murry Lou passed out the senior newsletter and informed us of scams in information important to seniors. We are so lucky to have Area II from Roundup come to our senior meetings the 4th Thursday of every month to keep us informed on things going on and what we need to know.

After our meal was finished, and chores were done, cards were enjoyed in the Rebecca Room.

FLATWILLOW and WINNETT NEWS

The first meeting of Flatwillow Homemakers will be held on September 12th at Linda Gershmel’s home. We will be enjoying our meeting and lunch in the back yard unless the weather isn’t cooperating. Linda wants it to be a ladies’ garden party. It will be fun. If you can, it would be fun to wear dresses and hats. A wonderful tradition that has sort of disappeared and we can have our own version of a garden party. We will have our secret sister revealing and draw for new secret sisters. Raye Anne will hand out the books and we will fill them out, dues of $3.00 will be due, and there will be opportunity table. It will be a busy first day back after summer break. I am looking forward to seeing everyone and visiting and catching up on the news of what we did over the summer. We will see you soon.

Be sure to send your ballots back in for the change of government form for Petroleum County.

There was a baby shower for Mandy and Crispin Rosado held at the Community Center on August 6. Another baby shower, this time for Clay and Brittany Barnett will be held on September 10 at the Community Center. Congratulations to both on the blessed additions to their family.

School started in Winnett on August 16. Football and volleyball practices and games are under way. Be sure to support our Grass Range/Winnett Lady Rangers for volleyball, and our football boys are in a co-op with the Fergus Eagles of Lewistown. Good luck to all! So far, as far as I’ve heard, both the football team and the volleyball team have won their first games.

Hard to believe our summer is almost over. I will be happy to see cooler temperatures and welcome fall. Have a good week!
