Longtime Winnett Volunteer Firefighters Recognized for Their Years of Service

Leonard and Kardy Eickhoff, with a combined 64 years of being on the Winnett Volunteer Fire Department, were recognized on December 21, 2023, at the annual fire department Christmas party held at the Winnett Bar. Leonard first joined the fire department in 1983. In 1999, when the current chief, Ronnie Olson passed away, Leonard was elected fire chief and held that position until he retired as chief in 2015. He stayed on as a firefighter until he officially retired in 2023. His wife Kardy joined the department in 1999 and was very active as a firefighter, plus she was the secretary of the department for most of her 24 years on the department. They organized the Winnett Fire Fun Days for several years with most of the firemen and women on the department taking part. They grilled hamburgers and hot dogs, and organized games for the kids. It was a way of thanking the community for their support of the fire department. They are both very community oriented. They may have retired from the fire department, but they have not retired from the community. Several years ago, they purchased the general store in Winnett. We want to thank them for their years of service to the fire department and their continued support of the community. We wish them the best as they continue to spend their retirement years staying busy and active in the community.
