The Montana DMV office in Roundup has moved. Now located in that blue building near the KLMB radio, across the street from Autumn's Inn, off Main Street. The little building has been a pizza place, an insurance office, a realtor's office, and now is the new location of the Department of Motor Vehicles. You can talk with Shirley, Monday through Friday, from 8 AM to 5 PM starting next week.
There is a bit of confusion recently about the "real ID" that's now available. The "real ID" is good for air travel but only DOMESTIC travel. A "real ID" will also allow entrance to all Federal buildings. The deadline for the "real ID" has been extended to May 7, 2025.
For your "real ID", you will need to bring with you: an unexpired passport if you have one, or certified original birth certificate - no copies, or naturalization papers, and social security card, or pay stub, or W-2, or 1099 form. If you are female and/or you have had name changes, i.e. divorce, remarriage, marriage, etc., bring all documents that show the change authorizations. Bring all of these documents, and two pieces of mail, a voting card, or car title or registration, showing your name and address. If in doubt, bring any and all documents that will prove your identity and legal place of residence.
For international travel, you will still need a passport. And by international, ANY travel, that means car, train, plane or boat that crosses the border of another country. That includes travel to Canada, (Montana's closest foreign country), Mexico, Europe and beyond.
Passports are available locally only at the Musselshell County Court House. They take time to process, so best to plan ahead.
