FLATWILLOW and WINNETT NEWS
Flatwillow Homemakers held their March meeting on Wednesday, March 13 at Melody’s home. It was on Wednesday this month since Melody works on Tuesdays. It worked well for all of us to change the date for this month. There were six members present and one guest. Welcome Ella Iverson as our guest. Sandy Gonzalez, Babs Lea, Ginger Moore, Luann Knutson, and Kim Tarplee were all present. The thought for the day was a Bless You Irish poem. It was a story about St. Patty driving all the snakes out. Each member read a joke. Minutes and Treasurer’s Report were approved as presented.
We talked about our red, white, and blue themed gifts we want to give at our May meeting. It will be the same as when we have our Christmas gift exchange. Correspondence and bills were given to Raye Anne at seniors since she was absent from the meeting. We want to be thinking about our May venue for our end of year field trip. We will decide at our April meeting where we would like to go.
Melody read a letter from Ella’s great granddaughter Dawson. She is going to Italy for a volleyball training camp and games. What a wonderful experience. Kim won the blind pig. Next meeting will be at Babs’ house on April 9. We will have election of officers and secret sisters gift exchange. Everyone bid on the opportunity table. Happy St Patty’s Day, Happy Easter, and we’ll see you next month.
We had to say goodbye to yet another friend from our community. Doris Maxwell passed away last week. She just lost her husband a couple of months ago and now she is gone.
We send our sympathy and prayers to her family and friends.
Congratulations to our WGR boys basketball team. They made it to State and did very well. They made a great showing and showed a lot of team spirit and good sportsman ship. Thank you to coaches Brandon Bantz and Mitch Thompson and to all our young athletes on a job well done. Jr. High basketball has been going on too. Our boys jr high basketball team took 3rd place last week at their tournaments. Thank you to Cody Ahlgren and Cody Martinez and all our young athletes. Our team will be losing several seniors to graduation, but we have a talented group of 8th graders moving up. I think we’ll have a great basketball team for the next several years. Both our high school and jr high girls’ teams also did very well. A lot of talent is coming up. We are proud of all our teams.
Track and field is going on right now. Good luck to all our tracksters this season.
We want to thank Mrs. Karen Hale for her fantastic job as the band teacher for 7-12th grade band (and the 5/6th grade band also). They held a pre festival concert last Tuesday night, and then went to Music Festival in Lewistown yesterday and today. They sounded great and received a “1” on their sight reading skills and high scores on their playing. We haven’t had a music program in Winnett for several years and she took these students from not having music to a great program in one year. We are so proud of all of them.
Our Skills USA team had a great showing at state in Helena. Congratulations to Adam Tholt and all of the students on their projects and hard work. Winnett’s FFA, which just started this year, also did great at their state competition in Billings. Thank you to Lindsay Flint and Desi Seal for being there for the students and helping guide them through the year.
The school year may be winding down, but it is also busy as everyone is getting ready for graduation and the end of the year. Graduation is May 19th at 1:00 at the Winnett Gym.
It is busy for all the farmers and ranchers and ag related business now, too. Calving and lambing, planting. Never a dull moment. The weather is beautiful. Let’s hope we have a wet April, May and June. We need the moisture. Hope everyone has a great.
