ARBOR DAY CELEBRATION 2024

By Linda Zane

A few local folks braved the chilly, blustery weather Friday, April 19 to attend the annual Arbor Day celebration held at the Community Stage.

After a brief welcome, the Tree City, USA flag was presented to Mayor Sandra Jones noting Roundup’s 32nd year as a Tree City. Sheila Griffith’s and Savannah Wolff’s 4th grade classes recited a poem written by the late Jessie Morlan titled “The Tree” depicting the journey of a tree from seedling to material with which to build a house and pulp for paper to write on followed by a toe-tapping song titled “Plant a Tree.” Both were thoroughly enjoyed by the audience. Josh Stoychoff, Area Forester for DNRC, was also present.

Following the presentations, the group proceeded to the City Park for a tree climbing demonstration presented by Lydia, Jordan and Cameron Heser of Heser Tree Service from Forsyth. Meanwhile, two members of the city crew were busy planting 6 trees west and south of the stage. Five were to replace trees that had failed plus one additional tree on the far southeast edge. Trees were purchased from Good Earth Works in Billings with funds from an annual grant the City of Roundup receives as a Tree City USA. The Tree Board sincerely appreciates all who attended.
