Planning a paddle trip on the Upper Missouri Wild & Scenic River this spring or summer? Coal Banks Landing Campground is now open!
Coal Banks Landing Campground is the starting point for many river trips within the Upper Missouri River Breaks National Monument and features 20 first-come, first-served campsites.
Paddlers don't have far to go to reach the famed White Cliffs section of Upper Missouri River Breaks National Monument, while motorized boaters can launch from the nearby Virgelle Ferry boat ramp.
All river users should remember that the water is extremely cold and fast-flowing at this time of year. Conditions can change rapidly, so make sure that you're prepared for your trip on the river with all necessary supplies, especially life jackets!
For current conditions and information, please contact the Missouri Breaks Interpretive Center at 406-622-4000 or check out the monument's interactive recreation map to help plan your visit – https://www.blm.gov/visit/coal-banks-landing!
