Steven Robert Tyrrel (Steve) of Lavina, Montana, passed away at home after a brief illness. Steve lived a full and actively engaged life, devoted to making the world around him a better place. Always famous for his many Steve-isms, he often said, "it's not the years, it's the mileage." Well in life, no one traveled further than Steve.
Born on June 22, 1963, in Aurora, Minnesota, Steve's love of the outdoors was nurtured growing up in National Forests from the White Mountains in New Hampshire to Shasta-Trinity in California. He shared his passion for camping, skiing, hunting, and fishing with his family and friends near and far.
Steve was fearless about jumping into activities he had never done before, from running a car dealership to commercial salmon fishing, to being a ranch manager. When he moved to Montana, Steve found "Home." He dedicated himself to conservation and stewardship. In 1998, Steve established Integrated Ag Services, Inc. where he found joy working in the open country of "the last best place," and was never one to pass up any fishing or hunting opportunity.
In addition to devoting his time to helping any neighbor or friend in need, Steve's collaborative spirit and community service included serving as a member of the Lavina-Temple Masonic Lodge as well as founding member of the Dean Creek Volunteer Fire Department where he served as its Chief for over 20 years. He was also a member of the Montana Invasive Species Council. He was instrumental in helping to form the Central Montana Invasive Species Team and serving on its board. In addition, Steve served as District Supervisor for the Lower Musselshell Conservation District since 2007 and became a board member of the Montana Association of Conservation Districts (MACD). In 2023, he was the recipient of the MACD Supervisor of the Year Award. His service reflected his commitment to getting the job done and doing it right.
Gifford Pinchot defined conservation as "being dedicated to the greatest good, for the greatest number, for the longest time." There is no greater defining phrase for Steve than that. He was a strong, capable leader, always quick to give credit to others. He was committed to excellence, always enjoying learning new information and the possibility of teaching others. He was dependable, being the first one to act for others in need and always beholden to his word. Steve said, "My legacy is my family." His love of family and commitment to community enriched his life and the lives of those around him.
Steve is survived by his spouse, Lisabeth (Lissa) Beatty; sons, Lanning William, and Samuel (Sam) Pearson; mother, Janet Tyrrel; sisters, Kari Ayers and Lori Windsor; aunts; uncle; cousins; nieces; nephews; grandnieces; grandnephews; sisters-in-law; and brothers-in-law. Steve is predeceased by his father Robert Tyrrel and his brother Rodney Tyrrel.
A Celebration of Life for Steve will be held on Saturday, May 18, 2024, at 2pm. Per his request, family and friends are invited to gather in the backyard of our home for a short service followed by food and fellowship.
