Winnett Senior News / Flatwillow News

Flatwillow Homemakers took a road trip to Billings for our end of year field trip. We carpooled from Winnett and met up with Melody and Sandy at the Yellowstone Art Museum. Ginger’s daughter Stephanie Moore also joined us at the museum. Raye Anne Lund, Ginger Moore, Luann Knutson, Kim Tarplee, Sandy Gonzalez, and Melody Whitcher, along with Stephanie all enjoyed a delicious light lunch at the café located in the YAM building. We had a red, white, and blue themed gift exchange. Everyone brought a gift that was unique and special keeping with our red, white, and blue theme. It was such a fun day with a great group of friends. If you get a chance, please check out the YAM. You will be surprised and amazed at what all the paintings, sculptures, and drawings can tell us about the arts, the artists, and history. Some of the artists told history through their paintings and art work. After we finished touring the museum, we walked to the old Hart Albin building and visited the Yesteryear mall in the basement. What a step back in time to see the vintage furniture, clothes, records, appliances, dishes, and everything else that were used in years past. Everything there is or has been a part of our lives through our grandparents, great grandparents, and parents. Some of the items in there we all still have or are using. A fun place to visit and remember. No day is complete unless we go for ice cream, so we walked to an ice cream store downtown and enjoyed either a cone or a dish of ice cream. There were so many choices and all kinds of toppings to put on them. A fun way to end the day and end our season. We will meet again on September 10. We will let everyone know where our meeting will be. We will make up our books, chose hostesses for the 2024-2025 year. We will also draw for new secret sisters and reveal who our secret sister was for this past year. Have a great summer and we’ll see you in September.

It has been a slow start to summer with cooler temperatures. The rain is so welcome. We never want to turn down rain, but it has also been very windy. The countryside is so green and pretty. Most of us are just now beginning to hay. What a nice reason to delay starting haying because it is too wet, but we all are wanting to get in the fields. In addition to racing the weather, we are racing grasshoppers to get our hay cut.

The Winnett All School reunion is scheduled for July 19, 20, and 21st. There will be a fun run, car show, dance, and fireworks on Saturday the 20th. The parade will be on Sunday morning the 21st from 11-12. There are activities planned for the alumni. Be sure to enjoy a fun filled weekend and see classmates from near and far. Everyone is invited to enjoy this weekend with friends, family, and classmates.

The first session of swimming lessons has already been held. It was June 17-21 for the older kids. The younger kids session will be July 15-19. It was chilly and rainy for the older kids’ lessons, but they had a fun time. Hopefully, it will be warmer for the younger kids and the beginning classes.

There will be a Farmer’s Market every Sunday starting this Sunday, June 30. It will be at the PCCC in Winnett from 10:00 – 3:00. Everyone is welcome. It will be set up on outside of the building facing the street.

Fort Peck Theater is bringing a kids play to Winnett on July 8. It will be in the Carroll Hall at 1:30. It is free, and everyone is welcome. They are taking their play to a number of places and Winnett is pleased they are coming to our little town.

Congratulations to Virgil Tholt. He went to Nationals for Skills USA and took silver for Extemporaneous Speaking. Way to go, Virgil.

When you walk or drive through Winnett, take notice of the beautiful baskets of flowers on the street corners, then look up at the nice new light poles. There are beautiful baskets of flowers attached to the light poles. Thank you to the Lions Club of Winnett and volunteers from our community for hanging the baskets, make sure they are watered and doing all the planting. We have such a good Lions program, and our community has really stepped up to help. Our town looks very pretty.

There was a dance held at the Flatwillow Hall this past Saturday. The Johnke Ranch, Stahl Farms, Flatwillow Ranch, and Brad Murphy Ranch all went together to put on a dance to celebrate the opening of the Flatwillow Bridge, Titus Stahl and Brynn (Murphy) Stahl getting married, Haley Stahl graduating from Sheridan College, Jim Johnke and Melody Whitcher celebrating 10 years together. Finger food was welcome, and the band from Melstone was very good. Winnett Bar had set up a cash bar. There was a cover charge, but after the bills were paid, any extra money was donated to Flatwillow Hall. A great way to start a busy summer season by dancing away the night. Thank you all for the work that was done to get ready for the dance and for everyone that enjoyed a fun night.

Have a wonderful week and a great summer.
