Seen Around Town

Master gardeners live on Second Street West. Just look at their yard! Max and Pat work hard at it, you can tell. Lovers of the land, lovers of dirt, lovers of plants and it shows. If some of the greenery looks familiar, Max and Pat for a time placed flowers nd greenery outdoors at the Emmanuel Baptist Church. Now those same flowers are still blooming on their porch, a testament to the loving care of this couple.

Max told of driving a farm truck at the age or 4, barely able to see over the steering wheel while standing on the seat. So while the rest of us were busy toodling around on our tricycles, Max was already learning to farm and loving to watch things grow.

Max and Pat raised 6 adopted children, as well as 3 foster children plus numerous others. They estimate the children in their lives numbered 20. All were homeschooled most of the time.

The couple came to Montana from Colorado when it was time to retire, first living in the Kalispell area. When they came to Roundup, Max remembers the big flood of 2011. When living in the Judge Allen house on Second Avenue West, he claims he met most everyone in Roundup when they came to that overlook to see the floodwaters below.

ABC's with Mr. Mayfield

I had the opportunity to visit with Mr. Josiah Mayfield, Roundup School District's superintendent, the other day. We discussed many topics, my theme being 'ABC' as it pertains to the school district for the coming year.

The question, "What do you want to achieve in the 2024/25 school year?", was the first general question to Mr. Mayfield. This question, I feel fell under the A for administration.

He indicated that there has been a learning curve the last few years, with a variety of transitions. It has been hard to find teachers, but currently he feels that there is a more settled staff. He wants to find more ways to support both teachers and families.

There will be a hybrid 4 day schedule this year starting in September. Students and staff will have every other Friday off. The next Friday will be a half day, until 1 PM. This will be considered an academic intervention day. All real instruction will take place 4 days a week.

Cars & Pars 10th year is one for the books last Saturday. They had 32 cars and 49 golfers on a beautiful day. Several were first timers and several that have attended many times.

Thank you, Senior parents, for a great lunch.
