Rep. Rosendale Blasts Unnecessary Delays in Bull Mountain Mine Environmental Review

Congressman Matt Rosendale (MT-02) released a statement disagreeing with a recent ruling by U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia Judge Tanya Chutkan that ignores Montanan pleas for expedited environmental reviews of the Bull Mountain Mine. The Bull Mountain Mine is not able to begin extracting millions of tons of coal until the Department of the Interior’s Office of Surface Mining Reclamation and Enforcement finish permitting, after this ruling, permitting will not have to be completed until May 2026.

“The review required for continued extraction of coal at the Bull Mountain Mine has been unnecessary lengthy and undoubtedly political,” said Rep. Rosendale. “Instead of helping the Treasure State economy boom, this misguided ruling by Judge Chutkan will only continue to hinder local growth by delaying federal permitting. It’s time to finish the paperwork and get Bull Mountain back to full operating potential!”
