Artificial Intelligence…a youth's perspective

Submitted by: Destiny Hendrickson

AI is taking over the world. We’ve seen this all over the globe as eerie pictures and nonsensical essays get uploaded before our eyes. Many young artists are unhappy with the existence of generative AI because their passion projects are being used to train these artificial art thieves. Although, AI’s effect on society has its ups and downs, depending on the usage. Some people find AI helpful, like writers who are experiencing writer's block. Even though it can be useful, many young people dislike the idea of AI being used alot in society and life.

Young artists who love drawing digitally find AI to be quite harmful. Many artists who upload their pictures online want people to see their work, but instead, many of the images that are being uploaded get put into a software to teach AI how to draw like a person. This art is rarely distinguishable to humans. Playing around with AI art is fun, but it’s also damaging to the people who have spent hours perfecting their style by the software taking it.

When someone says they don’t like generative AI, it’s not for selfish reasons. Think of the time and effort you put into a painting, only for a soulless robot to make the exact same thing in a fraction of the time. These bots can mimic many styles in the art world, including: realism, pop art, surrealism, oil painting, and more. If you want art to put in your house, try to find something that a real person put effort and love into, not a soulless portrait.
