The Tree Board officially kicked off projects for the DNRC Forestry grant 2024 through early spring 2026 at a September 4th meeting with Service Forester Josh Stoychoff and DNRC Arborist for Eastern Montana District Sheri Steckler. The DNCR grant is for $25,000 with $l cash match and in-kind contribution from the city for every $3 from the grant. The plan is to remove 5 failed trees, more depending on the amount of the bid (presently have requests from homeowners for 8), plant at least 20 new trees and prune at least 30 trees, again depending on bid amount. The Tree Board continues to follow the inventory as recommended.
This is a very ambitious grant and the Tree Board is in need of volunteers who could donate even half-an-hour here and there. Please contact the City (406-323-2804) if you wish to volunteer to help with the tree program.
