FLATWILLOW and WINNETT NEWS
Flatwillow Homemakers held their first meeting of the new year on September 10. Linda Gershmel was the hostess. She made pork chops and gravy in the crock pot and mashed potatoes. Everyone else brought in appetizers, salads, veggies, and dessert. It was so nice to see everyone and catch up on how everyone’s summer went. Sandy Gonzalez, Linda Gershmel, Raye Anne Lund, Mary Meserve, Bonnie Moore, Ginger Moore, Lillian Moore, Kim Tarplee, and Babs Lea Tetrault were all here. We missed Melody Whitcher who was traveling and Arlene Bond who is not able to travel. We had a special guest today, Ella Iverson.
Thank you to Marie Johnke for framing the apron quilt for Homemakers. It will be displayed in the kitchen of the PCCC building. Sandy brought the quilt with her to show everyone and left it with Luann who will take it to the PCCC kitchen. Linda read the thought for the day. It was a poem titled “September” by Helen Hunt Jackson. A very fitting thought for our September meeting. Roll call was answered with “what do you plan or want to do to get ready for winter.” We all have chores we need to do with our flowers, sprinklers, decks, etc. before winter shows up.
MINUTES and TREASURER’S Reports – The minutes of May 8 were read. Ginger motioned, Kim seconded to approve the minutes and treasurer’s report as presented.
We celebrated June, July, August, and September birthdays. Babs and Mary had June birthdays, Kim, Luann, and Ella celebrated August birthdays, and Melody had a September birthday. Happy birthday to all.
Sandy reported on her mother Arlene. Says she is doing great. Her mind is still sharp, but she is moving slower. We also reported on Jean Cook who is at Valley Vista. We miss them both.
The Flatwillow Homemakers’ quilts were hanging in the hall at the PCCC during the reunion. There were a number of quilts on display for the alumni and families to see.
We filled out our program booklets, paid dues, checked out the opportunity table and passed out secret sister gifts. Everyone tried to guess who had their name. New secret sisters were drawn for the new year. We were all enjoying visiting that no one was ready to leave. Our next meeting will be at Ginger’s home on October 8th. Welcome back to everyone and we’ll see you in October.
Homecoming was Saturday September 21. Congratulations to our Grass Range/Winnett Ranger football and volleyball teams. We had a clean sweep of victories to celebrate Homecoming. There was a bon fire and street dance Saturday night. The weather was beautiful for football, volleyball, and homecoming festivities.
Congratulations to Katie Zimmerman and Jacob Solomon. They got married on September 21 at the Barnison, a wedding venue at Harlowton. It was a beautiful wedding in a beautiful place. Katie also helps out on the ranch, and she is the public librarian for the Petroleum County Library.
