The Piper Cub is finally finished. Two years ago, the wrecked airplane from a shop in South Dakota came to Roundup Airport in pieces. Jake Barthule, Kelly Gebhardt, and Clint Worman worked two years, for four to five days a week, to bring the little cub back to prime condition. The plane has special modifications that the owner wanted, so it is more than just the standard cub. It has been test flown, and is ready for the customer to pick up.
According to the guys, “The airport is coming back to life”. Word has gotten out about the great repairs at the Roundup airport, and they have work planned out for two more planes that will take up the next two years. Clint states,
“This airport is a perfect general aviation airport, with a huge crosswind runway, new pavement on the long runway, it’s not crowded by jets, and gas and jet fuel are available by credit card.” “It is a great airport to learn to fly.”, comments Jake.
The airport has great potential and opportunity for small plane owners. There is opportunity for pilot training, opportunities to build more hangers, and a great place for owners who need annuals and repairs. With the Billings airport becoming unaffordable for personal owners, the Roundup airport could provide expansion opportunity.
