Parents may allow underage drinking for a variety of reasons. Some believe that permitting their teens to drink in a controlled environment can help them learn to handle alcohol responsibly, reducing the allure of sneaking around to drink. Others may have cultural or familial backgrounds where moderate drinking is normalized, viewing it as a rite of passage. Additionally, some parents might feel that as long as their children are safe at home, it's better to allow them to drink rather than risk them drinking in secret.
