“The Montana Main Street Program has awarded a $290,000 grant to a collaborative project between the City of Roundup, Musselshell County, and other partners. The Wier Building Project is an innovative effort to address Roundup’s workforce housing and retail service needs while intentionally preserving an important piece of our cultural heritage. The County has completed an extensive feasibility assessment and has determined that this course of action is less expensive than demolition and will return our investment within 13 years of completion (pending our final grant). The County has acquired the building, will repair the structural issue, clean-up the hazardous material, and install a new roof. Once the building is stabilize and “clean”, an intentional developer will be chosen through a Request for Proposal process to own and complete the full renovations. Roundup is fortunate to have potential developers already at the table and interested.
The County would like to thank the Montana Main Street Program for this partnership, Signal Peak Community Foundation who has committed $50,000 to the project, and Snowy Mountain Development Corporation with the EPA who have committed over $550,000 for hazardous materials assessment and cleanup. Without these partners, this revitalization effort would not be possible!”
