Halloween is just around the corner, and soon winter will follow. Roundup High School, in collaboration with the RHS MBI (Montana Behavioral Institute) Youth C.A.R.E.S, The Jody Alise Foundation, and the School Resource Officer (SRO), is excited to announce their 3rd Annual Trunk or Treat event. This initiative originated three years ago when someone raised the idea of hosting a trunk or treat for older youth in the community, inspired by the existing event for elementary students. The suggestion gained support quickly, leading to its implementation.
We decided to always kick off the event by preparing a batch of FREE chili (made by Mrs. Engstroms classes) aiming to provide warm cups for kids and families before they set out for trick-or-treating. Teachers participate by setting up their trunks to distribute candy, while Prevention Specialist Angie Mozqueda and Youth C.A.R.E.S host an interactive booth.
This year, we’re particularly thrilled to have a dedicated deputy joining us, our very own SRO (School Resource Officer, Deputy Gatlin). His focus will be on safety and community engagement. The deputy plans to foster positive interactions while handing out glow bracelets and foam sticks, promoting the theme “BE SAFE, BE SEEN.” Be sure to stop and say hi to him. Each year, we remind our youth to stay visible, stick to the sidewalks, and look both ways before crossing the street. We also urge adults and drivers to exercise caution and remain aware of the children out celebrating.
Halloween is such a wonderful time for the community to come together, especially for the kids. It’s great to see events like Trunk or Treat and the annual Halloween parade, which really focus on creating a fun environment for our youth. The parade sounds like a fantastic way to celebrate, especially with hot dogs and hot cocoa waiting at the end!
Visiting places like Homes on the Range and the long-term care side of Roundup Memorial Hospital is a lovely idea too. It really brightens the day for both the kids and

the residents when they get to see all the creative costumes.
PLEASE DO NOT FORGET about the east side of town—it’s important for those kids to make those iconic stops and keep the tradition alive. It sounds like there’s so much to do, and the emphasis on safety is crucial. What are you most looking forward to this Halloween?
And with NO SCHOOL the next day we should all expect our kids will be out and about a lot later than normal.
Excitingly, this year we invite the community to participate in our trunk or treat, set up begins at 5pm just come to the high school parking lot. We will show you where you can park, decorate your trunk (or not) and hand out candy.
Youth Cares and The Jody Alise Foundation are donating once again a $50 Amazon gift card to the best decorated trunk. Last year’s winner was Roundup Family Dentistry.
Hope to see you all!
