Letters to the Editor

FOR THE LAST TIME !! The DEQ floodplain on Meat House Rd.and our river walk trails are NOT public lands to be used by ATVs or roaring pickup trucks. The DEQ used Fema funds to stake down celery green serpentine objects that are filled with absorbent filament. These are to hold back the Musselshell river water during flooding. This is what you have been driving over and breaking open. Our once lovely River Walk trail system is just that designed for walkers, hikers and bicycles. No motorized vehicles are to be used on these. I first noticed this abuse of our local environment a year ago and reported it to the County Commissioners who have done nothing to protect and maintain the floodplain for local residents who live in the floodplain area. The destruction has continued. Who is doing this? Many newcomers to Roundup may be at fault. They think that any land without a fence around it is public lands. They have a lot to learn about Montana laws and boundaries. After the terrible floods in 2018 the DEQ took on this project and they also placed snow fencing all around the front entrance to keep vehicles out. Some rude and inconsiderate people have taken these down driving in area to tear up the floodplain in fun.,All I can say is this.As a taxpayer and Roundup resident who lives in the flood plains I am angry over the waste and disrespect of the dollars spent by the DEQ to protest us from flood waters. I have notified the DEQ in Helena about this issue. Our County Commissioners with help from our Sheriff could do more to safeguard the Meat House Rd. area and our trail system. If you want to hot rod around on your ATV go to the Horsethief Rd.BLM land or to the old oil fields near Dry Lake Mason. You can roar around all you want ! Start showing some respect for others.
