Letters to the Editor

Of course, I was relieved and pleased by the national election outcome, but it wasn't a glorious victory. How can one be satisfied in a country where so many of the electorate disdain the Constitution, not to mention fundamentals of moral behavior right down to the respect of human life? It frightens me.

For me, the win was sullied further by an outcome in Montana, where a misguided sub-electorate concluded that a woman should have a (State) Constitutional right to murder her pre-born child, as if, contrary to every result of modern science, he or she were no more than a cyst or an ingrown hair.

Is that substantially different from making it her right to kill anyone – regardless of age – that gets in her way, inconveniences her, detracts from her enjoyment?

James Madison said of his group's work on formulating our Constitution,

"WE HAVE STAKED THE WHOLE FUTURE OF AMERICA'S CIVILIZATION ... UPON THE CAPACITY OF EACH AND ALL OF US TO GOVERN OURSELVES ACCORDING TO THE TEN COMMANDMENTS." Don't just read that; think about it.

Just look how far off base he must have been! Those Commandments are banned from appearing where they might do the greatest good, which is probably the reason for their proscription.

At any rate, the victory could have been sweeter, but I hope the new government can educate the population on life with laws and responsibility and on what a great country we can be again.
