Derrick Wendling brings a unique blend of hands-on expertise and project management, honed through
years of work on large-scale projects with industry leaders like John Deere, Bobcat, and BTD (Better
Through Design). One of his standout projects was leading the electrical installation for a $17 million facility, an achievement that underscored his ability to manage high-demand commercial jobs. Derrick's portfolio is packed with notable successes, including the installation of a $7 million powder coating line for a major manufacturer and ground-up electrical services for medical device factories, custom cabinet shops, and cold storage facilities.
A most memorable job was turning a 120-year-old church into a Spanish immersion daycare. Derrick shares, “That was quite the feat. Every bit of that old wiring had to be removed. They were trying to retain some of the 120-year-old feel, so they didn’t just gut it to nothing and start over. I kept a lot of the original finishes in place while making it a viable space for teachers and young children, which requires
more care and attention to safety.”
While Wendling got his start working in residential with DR Horton, he has a strong preference for commercial work. “Before moving to Roundup four years ago, I was exclusively doing commercial work.
The residential homes I worked on were for the owners of businesses who asked me to help them with
their homes after a commercial project. I would always help them, but what I like about commercial work is the intricate planning, precision, and durability required. Everything you do is exposed, so it needs to look nice and stand up to the test of time and heavy use.”
Since moving to Roundup four years ago, Derrick has built Wendling Electric into a full-service operation, capable of handling everything from excavation and trenching to electrical installation. “Roundup may be a small community, but the scope of what we do is anything but small. Many people are surprised to learn how much commercial experience we bring to the table.”
