I was interested to read in the 27 November issue that two "representatives" from Kansas State University were here to "present a plan" for one of Roundup's principal eyesores, where the quotes reflect the article's wording.
Once having been offered a position on the K.S.U. faculty, I'm by no means averse to that institution, but with an M.S.U branch in Billings and M.S.U., U of Montana, and Montana Tech each a couple of hours away, I wonder why the town had to go so far afield for consultants, how much they cost, what are their credentials, who invited them, and why our in-state expertise was inadequate.
Perhaps in a follow up story, Ms. Trent could address these questions.

To further clarify a recent article about the Wier building and its future, more detailed information is available. Thanks to Theresa Doumitt for providing this additional information.
First - a definition of 'brownfield'
brownfield /broun′fēld″/
noun
1.A piece of industrial or commercial property that is abandoned or
underused and often environmentally contaminated, especially one
considered as a potential site for redevelopment.
2.A site [1], to be used for housing [2] or commerce [3], that has been
previously used for industry [4] and may be contaminated [5] or need
extensive clearing [6].
The Wier building was found to contain hazardous materials, including lead based paint and asbestos. These materials must be removed before any redevelopment can proceed.
The work done with the KSU team mentioned in the article is due to the fact that they are contracted, and paid for, through the EPA to provide technical support to the Brownfields program. The team serves the entire EPA region in this part of the country. This specialized team is under contract with the EPA.There is no choice as to the EPA's contract selection process. In addition, all work done by them is done free of charge for our community.
