Anton (Tony) Lekse, beloved and devoted husband, caring father, loving grandfather, brother and uncle, peacefully went to heaven on December 5, 2024, with his wife Margaret holding him.
Tony was born in Absher, MT on June 11, 1928. Tony attended school at the Star Mine, and in second grade moved to Roundup where his father worked in the mine. With his parents' permission Tony joined the Army Air Corps at the age of 17 and was stationed in San Antonio, TX. From there he was moved to Wichita Falls, TX to set up another air base.
In 1946 he married Louise Ferguson in Wichita Falls, TX. In November of 1993 he buried his beloved wife Louise.
Upon attending grief counseling, Tony met his loving wife Margaret Lind. When they thought nobody was watching, they were holding
hands soon after getting to know each other. Tony, with the approval of his family, asked Margaret to be his wife. Tony and Margaret became husband and wife on October 8, 1994.
Because of Tony's love for motorcycles, old cars and BIG trucks, Tony and Margaret attended numerous car shows and enjoyed being with each other. On their first date they went to a car show and then went to see a movie which ended up being "Grumpy Old Men". With Margaret's love and companionship, Tony enjoyed plays, church, car shows, lunch at the senior center and lots of road trips.
Tony is survived by his loving wife, Margaret, his sister, Anna Cross, his sons Larry (Karen) Lekse, Gerry (Mert) Lekse, daughters, Toni Marie Golden (Mike); Kathy Lekse and special friend (Rod), daughter-in-law Lila Lekse and step children, Cory Propp, Chris Lind, 12 grandchildren - 18 great grand children, 5 soon to be 6 great great grandchildren, sisters-in-laws Ruth Lekse and Marlene Lekse, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Tony worked for the City of Roundup, Miles City Merc, Mikes GMC, Hoiland Ford and Service Station, Staunton Chevrolet, Getter Trucking, Black Hills Trucking as well as S & K Trucking. After 28 years of service with Getter Trucking, he was honored with a dinner and presented a ring for his years of service. Being the big man that Tony was, his son Larry, took him to a bowling alley where they were able to measure his hands to size the ring.
Roundup lost another "history book." Even being 96 years old, Tony was a story teller with his sharp memory. He could tell you whose house belonged to whom and where it came from. He also remembered every road and city from his job hauling oil field equipment and heavy loads like bridges through many states as well as Canada. One time, he led a caravan of twenty-two semis with an oil derrick and equipment from Canada to Miami, Florida. Tony was an excellent mechanic so much so, that Getter's would fly an airplane into Roundup to take him to their many terminals. He made many friends through the years and could recall their names. Great stories he had to tell (and did tell)!
Tony was preceded in death by his parents, Anton Joseph Lekse and Adolphina ("Grandma Lekse"), brothers, Richard, Don, Frank, sisters, Thelma, Louise, and son Ken Lekse.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, December 14, 2024 at St. Benedicts Catholic Church in Roundup, MT.
Internment will be at the Roundup City Cemetery following the service.
